Ep 32: Leaders Show Up

“You can’t motivate people. You can’t motivate them directly, you can’t push that button or pull that lever. What we can do is help them self-realize the results of taking action.”

- Ryan McLean

Leading a team full of team leaders is no child’s play. But Ryan manages to do just that and more for his team. Having to live in Paris for eight years, he learned to appreciate beautiful architecture, homes, and buildings.  He even pursued a career in Interior Design. Surprisingly, he also had his fair share of working in the Healthcare industry as a nurse. His endgame? Real Estate. His love of homes and buildings led him into the industry of helping people own their dream homes and properties. Not only that, he is also leading a team consisting of team leaders like him that wants to develop more leaders in the industry.

Here is our conversation with Ryan in a nutshell:

  • From being a nurse to becoming a realtor: Ryan shares with us that one moment that led him to real estate

  • These 3 important questions to be purposeful:

    • Who’s on my three-foot circle?

    • What am I feeding my brain?

    • What kind of course can I take?

  • Ryan’s musings on leadership and motivation:

    • “My business grew dramatically, I also grew myself as a leader.”

    • “Leaders continue to show up, then talent continues to show.”

    • “You can’t motivate people. You can’t motivate them directly, you can’t push that button or pull that lever. What we can do is help them self-realize the results of taking action.”

  • On building trust with team members and clients:

    • “When you build that rapport and people know that they can trust you and you are there to support them they are more likely to allow you and listen to you to help them to get there.”

    • “People have to know, without a shadow of a doubt, that their best interest is number one to you.”
